The market extended its rally; more IPOs to come

The period from April 15 to May 15, 2026 saw Egyptian equities extend their upward momentum, with both the EGX30 and EGX70 posting broad-based gains as investor sentiment improved further. EGX30 hit an all-time high of 54,977.01 intraday on 11 May, whereas EGX70 followed suit on 17 May, hitting 15,158.43 intraday. During the period, small-cap stocks once again outperformed, supported by higher retail participation and renewed appetite for risk-on and turnaround stories. Market activity accelerated noticeably, with advances outnumbering declines by a ratio of 7 to 1. Several stocks recorded sharp gains on the back of corporate actions.

Defensive plays, led by healthcare and education names, dominated the gainers’ list. Alexandria New Medical Center (AMES, up 101%) more than doubled during the period. The company was undergoing an EGP120-million capital increase as part of its EGP190-million capital expenditures plan to modernize some of its assets and add new ones to grow the hospital’s revenue base. Similarly, Nile Pharmaceuticals (NIPH, up 67%) was looking to double its capital to EGP1 billion. Also, Nozha International Hospital (NINH, up 55%) rallied sharply absent any material event. Meanwhile, Suez Canal Co. for Technology Settling (SCTS, up 76%) extended its recent momentum. It proposed to pay out an interim cash dividend of EGP13 a share or 96% of its distributable profits.

Real estate and tourism stocks remained in focus. Palm Hills Developments (PHDC, up 57%) advanced on news of its share buyback and a new project planned in Ras El-Hekma with an Emirati partner. PHDC later reported its net income fell 22% year-on-year to EGP1.2 billion in the first quarter of 2026 on 11% higher revenues of EGP9.35 billion. Egyptian Resorts (EGTS, up 42%) extended its rally coinciding with news of its winning an arbitration case that will return land parcels totaling around 294 thousand square meters in Sahl Hasheesh, Hurghada.

On the downside, losses were relatively limited compared to the broader market rally. Housing & Development Bank (HDBK, down 5%) saw mild profit-taking following its strong gains in the prior month, while Digitize for Investment & Technology (DGTZ, down 6%) and Dice Sport & Casual Wear (DSCW, down 7%) also corrected lower. GoGreen for Agricultural Investment & Development (GGRN, down 22%) was among the weakest performers during the period.

The market’s IPO scene is reviving with the second offering so far in 2026 by Korra Energi (KORA) whose EGP735-million IPO was oversubscribed, including both the private placement and the public tranches. The latter, 40% of the offering or EGP294 million, was oversubscribed 31.35 times, paving the way for more IPOs to hit the Egyptian Exchange throughout the remainder of the year.

From a macro perspective, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) kept interest rates unchanged for the second time this year, in line with market expectations. The overnight deposit and lending rates were kept at 19% and 20%, respectively. The impact of a delayed interest rate easing cycle was more than offset by rising inflation expectations which supported equity valuations. At the same time, FX flexibility and improving investor sentiment toward emerging markets will likely continue to drive the market’s future performance.

STOCK ANALYSIS

Nile Pharmaceuticals (NIPH)

Nile Pharmaceuticals (NIPH) was among the top-performing healthcare stocks during the period, rising 66.5%. The stock traded at multi-year highs during the period, pushing its year-to-date performance to +68%. The stock traded between an intraday low of EGP100.10 on Apr. 15 and an intraday high of EGP186.89 on May 12, with 18.6 million shares changing hands worth some EGP2.7 billion – an abnormally high activity by historical measures. As for valuation, the stock is now trading at a trailing 12-month price-to-earnings ratio of around 35 times, quite a premium to the pharmaceutical sector, but only 17 times its expected earnings.

الاستثمار في أسهم التوزيعات (الأرباح النقدية) ليس مجرد رهان على نمو رأس المال، بل هو في جوهره عقد ضمني بين الشركة ومساهميها: أنتم تثقون بأموالكم، ونحن نكافئ صبركم بتدفقات نقدية منتظمة.

غير أن هذا العقد يُكسر في صمت كل عام في البورصة المصرية، حين يرى المساهم سعر سهمه يُقتطع فجأة بمقدار الأرباح الموزّعة، ثم يجلس ينتظر في كثير من الأحيان شهوراً طويلة قبل أن يرى قرشاً واحداً في حسابه.

الجرح الذي لا يراه أحد

آلية التوزيع المعمول بها في معظم الشركات المصرية تُفضي إلى معادلة غير عادلة بامتياز. فحين يُعلَن عن يوم انفصال السهم عن حقه في توزيع الأرباح (تاريخ الكوبون)، ينخفض سعر السهم في السوق بمقدار قيمة الكوبون المُعلن تلقائياً.

هذا أمر طبيعي وتقني بحت. لكن المشكلة تكمن فيما يأتي بعد ذلك: يمكن أن يمر شهر أو ثلاثة أشهر أو ستة أشهر قبل أن يصل المبلغ فعلياً إلى المستثمر.

في هذه الأثناء، المستثمر يحمل سهماً بقيمة سوقية مُخفَّضة، دون أن يكون قد استلم المقابل النقدي الذي يُبرر هذا الانخفاض. نعم، المعادلة الحسابية للعائد الإجمالي لا تتغير في نهاية المطاف، لكن الواقع الذي يعيشه المستثمر مختلف تماماً: السيولة تأثّرت، والثقة تزعزعت، والمستثمر الذي يعتمد على الأرباح كمصدر دخل يجد نفسه في مأزق.

الفجوة الزمنية وتداعياتها

المشكلة ليست فلسفية، بل هي تشغيلية وإنسانية في آنٍ واحد. تخيّل مستثمراً متقاعداً يحتفظ بحصة في إحدى الشركات المصرية الكبرى ويعتمد على توزيعاتها لتمويل نفقاته الشخصية.

هذا المستثمر:

- يرى قيمة محفظته تنخفض بمجرد انفصال السهم عن الأرباح.

- يظل ينتظر في بعض الأحيان أشهراً ليستلم المبلغ الذي كان يُفترض أن يُعوّضه عن هذا الانخفاض.

- يعاني من ضائقة سيولة جزئية في الفترة الفاصلة، رغم أنه يملك أصولاً رابحة.

هذا ليس سيناريو افتراضياً، بل هو واقع يعيشه آلاف المستثمرين الأفراد في السوق المصري.

الاستثناءات التي تُثبت القاعدة

لا يخلو المشهد من نماذج مضيئة تستحق الإشادة والاقتداء. شركة أوراسكوم كونستراكشون (ORAS) تتبع نهج التوزيع نصف السنوي، مما يُقلّص فترة الانتظار ويحسن إدارة التدفقات النقدية للمساهمين.

وشركة إي فاينانس (EFIH) تقوم بتوزيع الأرباح مرتين في السنة، مرة بشكل فصلي قبل انتهاء العام المالي والمرة الثانية بشكل نهائي عن نفس العام المالي.

وهناك نموذج مختلف حيث تلجأ كل من الدلتا للسكر (SUGR) وإيبيكو (PHAR) وأبو قير للأسمدة (ABUK) إلى تقسيم التوزيع السنوي على دفعتين أو ثلاث، في حين تتأثر أسهمها بالتوزيعات أشهر قبل تاريخ الصرف قي الوقت الذي كان يمكن أن تتجنب هذه الشركات خصم كامل الكربون مرة واحدة ثم توزيعه على أقساط طالما أن السيولة غير متاحة حالياً. فالأجدر بتلك الشركات أن تعلن عن توزيعاتها النقدية بشكل دوري بدلاً من سنوي وبالتالي لن تتأثر أسهمها بكامل توزيع السنة. بل يمكن لنفس هذه الشركات أن تعلن عن الكوبون السنوي كما تفعل ولكن تحدد عدة أيام للاستحقاق لكل قسط وبالتالي لا يفقد المساهم كامل قيمة الكوبون ثم ينتظر أشهر لاستلامه.

فالأمر ممكن تنفيذه، وإدارات الشركات حين تضع مصلحة المساهم في حسبانها ستجد الطريق. فمن ناحية، إدارات الشركات مسئولة عن إدارة السيولة في شركاتهم، ولكن من الأحرى أن يكون ذلك بشكل لا يضر مساهمي هذه الشركات وهم في الأصل أصحابها.

نحو توزيعات أرباح دورية: رؤية للمستقبل

فما الذي يمنع الشركات المصرية من اعتماد التوزيعات ربع السنوية على غرار ما هو سائد في الأسواق المتقدمة؟ الحجج المضادة التقليدية كثيراً ما تتمحور حول التعقيد الإداري والتكلفة التشغيلية، غير أن هذه الحجج تضعف أمام الواقع التكنولوجي الراهن الذي جعل عمليات التحويل والإيداع فورية وشبه مجانية.

ما تحتاج إليه الشركات المصرية هو مراجعة جوهرية لفلسفتها في التوزيع، تقوم على ثلاثة محاور:

أولاً: تقصير الفجوة الزمنية بين تاريخ الاستحقاق وتاريخ الصرف الفعلي إلى أقل ما يمكن.

ثانياً: تبنّي التوزيع على دفعات دورية ربع سنوية على الأقل للشركات ذات التدفقات النقدية المستقرة، مما يُعزز الثقة ويُحسّن سيولة المساهمين.

ثالثاً: الاعتراف بالمستثمر الفرد شريكاً حقيقياً لا مجرد رقم في قائمة المساهمين. هذا المستثمر هو صمام أمان السيولة في السوق، وهو من يحمل السهم في الأوقات الصعبة.

رسالة إلى مجالس الإدارة

قرارات السياسة التوزيعية ليست قرارات محاسبية بحتة، بل هي رسائل استراتيجية تُشكّل صورة الشركة في أذهان المستثمرين وتُحدد جاذبيتها على المدى البعيد. الشركة التي تُسرع في إيصال مستحقات مساهميها تُقدّم نفسها شريكاً موثوقاً، والشركة التي تُبقيهم ينتظرون تُرسل رسالة معاكسة حتى لو لم تقصد ذلك.

البورصة المصرية تشهد تطوراً ملحوظاً في منظومتها التنظيمية والتكنولوجية. حان الوقت أن تُواكب سياسات توزيع الأرباح هذا التطور، وأن تتحوّل من نموذج الدفعة السنوية الواحدة إلى نموذج أكثر إنسانية واستجابةً لاحتياجات من وثقوا بأموالهم في هذه الشركات.

المستثمر الذي ينتظر عاماً كاملاً ليتسلّم أرباحاً كان يستحقها منذ أشهر، لا يُعاقَب مالياً فحسب، بل يُعاقَب معنوياً أيضاً. وهذه العقوبة المعنوية لها ثمن على السوق بأكمله.

Broad-based gains on a war-off mode

The period from March 15 to April 15, 2026 saw the EGX regain upward momentum, with both the EGX30 (up 10.5%) and EGX70 (up 6.3%) posting solid gains as investor sentiment improved following the prior month’s consolidation. Geopolitical risks were reduced with the 2-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran. Market breadth turned positive, with advances outpacing declines by a ratio of 3 to 1. This was supported by renewed interest in the financial and real estate sectors, with continued rotation into small- and mid-cap names.

Healthcare and tourism names led the rally. October Pharma (OCPH, up 59%) surged amid renewed interest in defensive healthcare plays, while Egyptian Resorts Co. (EGTS, up 44%) rallied ahead of its appeal hearing session on May 5. Also, real estate stocks posted broad-based gains. Arab Real Estate Investment (RREI, up 36%), Arab Developers Holding (ARAB, up 21%), and Mena Touristic & Real Estate Investment (MENA, up 23%) benefited from a stronger US dollar. Meanwhile, dual-listed Orascom Construction (ORAS, up 25%) extended its rally on the back of strong 2025 results, reflecting higher backlog visibility and continued project awards.

Banks, meanwhile, continued to attract flows. Suez Canal Bank (CANA, up 44%) and Housing & Development Bank (HDBK, up 40%) advanced on improved earnings visibility in a high interest rate environment. Also, CIB (COMI, up 21%) rebounded following the prior month’s correction, supported by renewed foreign interest given its heavy weight in the EGX30. Similarly, Credit Agricole Egypt (CIEB, up 21%) and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank - Egypt (ADIB, up 21%) posted solid gains, reflecting improving sentiment toward the sector.

The period also saw the strong participation of smaller financial and investment companies, including Alexandria National Co. for Financial Investment (ANFI, up 35%) and Arab Moltaqa Investments (AMIA, up 35%). This coincided with increased retail activity and a pickup in trading volumes as the market shifts towards more opportunistic strategies. On the downside, losses were relatively contained. Alexandria Mineral Oils (AMOC, down 11%) corrected following its recent rally, while Macro Group (MCRO, down 15%) fell amid continued selling pressure. Elsewhere, Sidi Kerir Petrochemicals (SKPC, down 5%) and Misr Beni Suef Cement (MBSC, down 6%) also saw mild pullbacks.

From a macro perspective, at its 2 April meeting, the Central Bank of Egypt left policy rates unchanged at 19% for deposits and 20% for lending. The CBE cited elevated global uncertainty, commodity price shocks, and upside inflation risks—a move broadly anticipated by the market. Reflecting the impact of ongoing regional tensions, the CBE also trimmed its FY2025/26 real GDP growth forecast from 5.1% to 4.9%. Still, persistent inflationary pressures and FX volatility remain the key risks, suggesting a more selective market environment going forward.

STOCK ANALYSIS

Suez Canal Co. for Technology Settling (SCTS)

Suez Canal Co. for Technology Settling (SCTS), owner of 6 October University, saw its market cap multiply on high trading volumes. The stock rose 43% during the period, jumping from EGP264 to EGP376.66. However, the company’s management denied the existence of any material event that would have driven the stock higher. Later on after the end of this period, the company’s management revealed a proposed cash dividend distribution based on its 6-month financials, amounting to EGP1.2 billion or EGP13 a share and implying a 2% yield at the time of the announcement. The stock continued to rally later on to an intraday high of EGP829.02 on Apr. 23, valuing the company at an astronomical EGP75 billion.

Momentum meets consolidation

The period from February 15 to March 15, 2026 saw the EGX enter a phase of consolidation following two months of strong gains. While some pockets of the market continued to rally, profit-taking activities in large caps weighed on the EGX30, whereas the EGX70 showed relative resilience, supported by sharp moves in select small- and mid-cap names. While declines led advances by a ratio of 3 to 1 during the period, positive performance was increasingly driven by stock-specific catalysts rather than broad-based momentum.

Small caps once again dominated the gainers’ list. Tawasoa Factoring (TWSA, up 114%) extended its post-IPO rally as the company was planning an EGP40-million capital increase. This will eventually allow the company to migrate from the small- and medium-sized enterprises exchange to the main board. Fertilizer producers remained in focus against the backdrop of the ongoing US/Israel-Iran war, with Misr Fertilizers Production (MFPC, up 33%) and Abu Qir Fertilizers (ABUK, up 20%) benefiting from continued strength in global urea prices that are driven by limited global supply.

Energy and industrial names were also among the top performers. Alexandria Mineral Oils (AMOC, up 32%) and Sidi Kerir Petrochemicals (SKPC, up 13%) gained on improving refining margins and petrochemical spreads. Egypt Aluminum (EGAL, up 27%) extended its rally, supported by firm global aluminum prices and a weaker EGP.

Real estate and asset-backed plays saw renewed interest. Heliopolis Housing & Development (HELI, up 28%) advanced further. The company has been in the spotlight as an acquisition target as part of the Egyptian government’s public offerings program. Meanwhile, Alexandria Containers Handling (ALCN, up 23%) rebounded as the stock moved beyond its mandatory tender offer (MTO) price of EGP22.99 a share, attracting renewed positioning on speculation that the MTO price might be raised. The Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) approved the extension of the MTO presented by Black Caspian Logistics Holding Ltd., a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi-based AD Ports, for another 60 working days towards the end of May.

On the downside, large caps bore the brunt of profit-taking. Telecom Egypt (ETEL, down 27%) corrected sharply following its rally the month before and after news of spectrum payments weighed on sentiment. Financials also pulled back, with CIB (COMI, down 17%) and EFG Holding (HRHO, down 17%) declining as foreign investors trimmed their positions in the EGX. Similarly, fintech names led by E-Finance (EFIH, down 19%) and Fawry (FWRY, down 16%) also came under pressure, alongside GB Corp (AUTO, down 20%), paring their earlier gains in the prior period.

As for the macro picture, the recent rate cut by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) continued to support valuations, but foreign outflows and global risk-off sentiment led to short-term volatility. In view of the recent fuel price hikes and a 12% weaker EGP, inflation is likely to increase, casting doubts over the CBE’s easing cycle.

Egypt Aluminum (EGAL)

Egypt Aluminum (EGAL) was among the notable gainers during the period, rising 27% amid continued strength in global aluminum prices which rose by 10% to around USD3,400 per ton over the same period. The stock also benefited from its export-oriented business model, with a weaker EGP (down 12% in March alone) supporting revenue growth in local currency terms. The stock traded firmly throughout the period, hitting an all-time high of EGP321 a share, first hit intraday on Mar. 8. With 11.6 million shares worth some EGP3 billion changing hands during the period, the stock is now up 29% year-to-date.

Definitions

• Headline = Urban inflation headline number.

• Core = Core inflation that excludes volatile items, like fruits and vegetables, and administratively-controlled or regulated items.

• Food = Food inflation.

• Annual = Comparing the CPI reading versus the same month a year before.

• Monthly = Comparing the CPI reading versus the previous month.
